TWILIO: WEB COPY, SOCIAL MEDIA COPY, AD CAMPAIGNS, STYLE GUIDE

My first few years at Twilio, I focused on answering a persistent question: what exactly does Twilio do?

The response, “Oh, it’s an API-based communications company,” while true, is not a satisfying answer.

Twilio is a tool for developers, and a proverbial secret sauce for companies ranging from Lyft, to Netflix, to the American Red Cross.

As one of Twilio’s first marketing hires, I developed the brand’s voice across social media, managed the blog, and wrote over 500+ blog posts for Twilio from 2012 - 2018. I then went on to own all copy across Twilio’s website, and develop Twilio’s Writing and Style Guide as Twilio’s Senior Copywriter.

I told the stories of how people use Twilio to make the APIs feel tangible and tech feel more human. It’s easier for someone to understand complex concepts like sending packets of media back and forth from servers when it’s wrapped in the narrative context of a blog post explaining how I built my Mom a Donna Summer themed conference line.

As a Senior Copywriter, I developed and maintained Twilio’s Style Guide that ensures copy, tone, and voice standards across all of Twilio’s website properties, and even billboards.
